Blue Hill Observatory holds the longest continuous weather record in North America. NOAA, NASA and leading universities rely on it. It does not maintain itself.
As federal science funding contracts, the daily cost of keeping observations running falls to our community. And 141 years of handwritten logbooks have never been fully digitized. They exist on paper, on a hill, vulnerable to everything paper is vulnerable to.
Pick a level, then enter it in the form. Every gift can be made in honor or in memory of someone.
Supports the observers who climb the hill every day.
Covers close to a quarter of one day of observations.
Covers more than half of one day on the record.
One climb. One set of readings added to a record that has never missed a day.
Protects today’s record and rescues 30 days of the handwritten archive.
Prefer to spread it out? Choose Monthly in the form. $37 a month covers one day every year.
The record happens every day, so steady support matters most. Give $37 a month and you cover one full day of observations every year. Give more, and you cover more.
More than 5,000 students a year visit, learn on field trips and in classrooms, and look through an instrument for the first time. It all runs on the same observation program your gift sustains.
A week on the hill is $3,500. A month is $14,000. If you want to give at that level, or give by stock, multi-year pledge or legacy gift, talk with Cheryl Cummings, our Director of Strategic Partnerships. It is a conversation, nothing more.
Membership keeps the record going all year and includes admission.
